BJP’s Janakrosha Yatra Turns into Show of Strength in Vijayapura

Led by BJP state president B.Y. Vijayendra, the rally witnessed enthusiastic participation, with party workers raising slogans in support of the BJP leadership

Vijayapura: The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Janakrosha Yatra in Vijayapura on Wednesday became a strong display of the party's organisational strength, particularly in the constituency of Bijapur City MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal, who was recently expelled from the party.

Led by BJP state president B.Y. Vijayendra, the rally witnessed enthusiastic participation, with party workers raising slogans in support of the BJP leadership. Despite the political backdrop, BJP leaders refrained from making direct references to Yatnal or his supporters.

In his address, Vijayendra launched a scathing attack on the Congress government and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, accusing them of neglecting backward communities while allegedly favouring minorities.

“Ever since Siddaramaiah became the Chief Minister, backward communities have been completely sidelined,” Vijayendra said, citing provisions in the state budget aimed at the Muslim community.

He pointed to budget allocations such as 4 percent reservation for Muslims in government contracts, Rs 50,000 for Muslim girls’ marriages, and financial aid of up to Rs 30 lakh for Muslim students pursuing higher education abroad.

“Is Siddaramaiah the Chief Minister of Karnataka or only of Muslims?” he asked, questioning the lack of similar schemes for Hindu beneficiaries.

“Are there no poor Hindu girls or Hindu youth who dream of studying abroad?” he added.

Vijayendra clarified that the BJP is not anti-Muslim, but urged the community to recognize what he described as the Congress’s vote-bank politics.

He also recalled Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision to abolish triple talaq and noted that welfare schemes introduced by former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa—such as Bhagyalakshmi and the bicycle distribution scheme—had benefitted all communities, including Muslims.

The Vijayapura leg of the Janakrosha Yatra appeared to serve dual purposes for the BJP: to target the Congress government and reassert its strength in a region where internal party dynamics have recently drawn attention.
