BJP alleges assault on some of its MLAs
BENGALURU: Bharatiya Janata Party MLA B.P. Harish took a hit on his head from an egg hurled at him by unknown person, reportedly a Congress worker, gathered outside the office of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), Queen’s Road in Bengaluru city on Wednesday while the BJP MLA alleged he was assaulted by four persons as well when he was walking towards the office of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) on Wednesday to stage a protest.
Harish told reporters he belongs to Harihara Assembly seat in Davangere and was unaware of the location of KPCC office in Bengaluru. He said he alighted from his car after his car driver located the address of the KPCC office and alighted from the car to walk for a distance along when reportedly Congress workers countered him and shouted slogans before an egg at him and it smashed against his head. The MLA said he was rescued from the crowd by policemen on duty which otherwise would have been before police rescued and alleged “It shows Congress party’s culture.”
The egg hurled at BJP MLA was when BJP MLAs/leaders of Karnataka Unit were heading to KPCC office to stage a protest and lay siege to the KPCC office in response to Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi leading a sit-in outside the residence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Tuesday demanding the resignation of Union Minister of Education Dharmendra Pradhan over NEET question leak and also demanding a discussion on the floor of the Parliament.
The car in which BJP leader Thamesh Gowda was passing through Queen’s Road in front of KPCC office, someone reportedly a Congress worker, hurled an egg at the vehicle which hit the target.
Condemning the attack on his party colleague, Ashok alleged “It is a government led by late don Kotwal Ramachandra since Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and president of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) B.K. Hariprasad were his associates decades back.”
The LoP alleged apart from B.P. Harish, MLAs Dr Ashwathnarayan also was hit by an egg while Jayanagar MLA C.K. Ramamurthy was assaulted with an iron road. A delegation of BJP leaders lodged a complaint with Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru Seemanth Kumar Singh.
KPCC president B.K. Hariprasad said “Hurling eggs at opposition MLAs was initiated by BJP in West Bengal.”
