Flooding has affected Sai Layout residents for about 12 years.

Bengaluru: Coming under fire from the residents of Sai Layout, one of the flooded localities in Bengaluru city, K.R. Puram MLA and former minister Byrathi Basavaraj on Wednesday offered to quit as an MLA if he failed to address the problem of flooding faced by the residents of Sai Layout. Flooding has affected Sai Layout residents for about 12 years.

In the latest flooding of Sai Layout, the locality remained waterlogged for about four days making it difficult for the residents to come out of their houses. The locality remained cut off with water surrounding all roads and entered houses causing inconvenience to the residents.
An inspection by Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao, a couple of days back, was on a tractor since all roads of Sai Layout were under water.
On Wednesday, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru incharge minister D.K. Shivakumar, MLA Byrathi Basavaraj arrived at Sai Layout for assessment of the situation. Angered by non-initiation of steps to prevent flooding their locality, residents expressed displeasure over the functioning of the MLA, Chief Minister and officials' apathy in addressing their problems.
The residents expressed displeasure over the inspection by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and alleged Chief Minister did not lend a patient hearing to their problems. "It was a part inspection of Sai Layout," alleged the residents of Sai Layout.
Later, Byrathi Basavaraj told reporters "What can I do when Chief Minister Siddaramaiah did not make a full inspection of the Sai Layout" and added "I can drag him?"
Basavaraj said he is familiar with the residents of Sai Layout and aware of flooding problems. “After I came to know about the flooding I arranged for water, meals and milk to the residents,” said the MLA.
“I have attended to the complaints of the residents in an honest way,” Basavaraj said and stated he again brought the problem of flooding to the notice of the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah assured to initiate steps to prevent flooding of Sai Layout.
“I have explained in detail the problems of Sai Layout to the Chief Minister,” the MLA said.
