BJP Aims To Return To Power In Karnataka In 2028: Harish Dwivedi
Dwivedi, who was recently appointed as the party's Karnataka in-charge, said he held meetings with state office-bearers and the core committee along with state BJP president BY Vijayendra
Bengaluru: The BJP will work collectively with the aim of returning to power in Karnataka in 2028, the party's new state in-charge and national general secretary Harish Dwivedi said on Tuesday.
Addressing reporters here, Dwivedi alleged that the Congress government had neglected public issues over the past three-and-a-half years and was involved in corruption.
"Everyone knows how Congress leaders, MLAs, MPs and ministers are looting the state," he alleged.
He criticised the state government's recent increase in milk and curd prices, pointing out that milk prices had been hiked by Rs 8 per litre.
"The Congress is not concerned about the welfare of ordinary people. It is preoccupied with the development of its own leaders and protecting the interests of the Gandhi family," he alleged.
He said the BJP would take up issues concerning public interest and reach out to people in the coming days, adding that the party would work collectively towards returning to power in Karnataka in 2028.
Dwivedi, who was recently appointed as the party's Karnataka in-charge, said he held meetings with state office-bearers and the core committee along with state BJP president BY Vijayendra on Monday.
"It was an introductory meeting. We discussed the organisation, understood its functioning and deliberated on ways to make it more active," he said.
He also said he met senior BJP leader and former Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa to seek his guidance.
"Under his leadership, the BJP has worked effectively in Karnataka, both as a ruling party and as an opposition. We sought his guidance and discussed how to free the people of Karnataka from the Congress government's misrule," Dwivedi said.
On the opposition to Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, the BJP leader said the exercise was not new and had been undertaken during the tenures of several previous prime ministers, including Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi.
"SIR is conducted to remove the names of deceased persons, those who have shifted their residences and to correct duplicate entries in electoral rolls. It is essentially an exercise to clean up the voters' list," he said.
Accusing the Congress of questioning constitutional institutions after electoral defeats, Dwivedi said the party blamed the Election Commission, Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and even the Supreme Court instead of introspecting.
"The Congress does not respect the country's constitutional institutions. It believes that the Gandhi family is everything. However, politically aware voters are watching everything," he alleged.
Referring to the recent elections to four seats in the Karnataka Legislative Council, he said voters, including teachers and graduates, sent a clear message by electing BJP and NDA candidates.
Asked whether the BJP-JD(S) alliance would continue, Dwivedi said the alliance was currently intact and functioning well.
"The decisions on the alliance are taken by the party's senior leadership. I am not authorised to take a decision on that. As of now, the alliance is going well," he said.
On the state BJP leadership, Dwivedi said Vijayendra was the party's president and that all leaders were working together under his leadership. "He is a young leader, and the party organisation is moving forward under his leadership," he added.
