BENGALURU: Police investigating the alleged murder of seven members of a family by a Bengaluru cab driver have recovered two more bodies from a forest in Tamil Nadu, taking the number of bodies found so far to three.
The bodies of Sunitha, 40, wife of accused Indushekhar, and her mother Roopavathi, 65, were found in the Yercaud forest area of Salem district following information provided by the accused during questioning.
Police said relatives were taken to Salem to identify the bodies. Investigators are continuing their search for four other victims whose bodies are yet to be recovered.
Indushekhar, 45, a cab driver from Rajajinagar, is accused of murdering his wife and six of her relatives, including a seven-year-old boy, over a period of about two weeks following suspected domestic disputes.
The body of Puneeth, 7, one of the alleged victims, was recovered near Nandi Hills on Friday. His post-mortem examination was conducted at Victoria Hospital in Bengaluru.
Sources said preliminary findings indicated that the child had suffered a blow to the head with a blunt object.
Police suspect that the accused transported the bodies in his car and disposed of them at different locations in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu to conceal the killings.
Investigators are searching forested areas near Hassan, Chikkamagaluru and other locations based on information obtained during questioning.
The accused allegedly displayed a 'Press' sticker on his car and claimed to be associated with a monthly publication. Investigators suspect that he used the vehicle to transport the bodies during the early morning hours to avoid police checks.
The case came to light after Tungamma, mother of one of the missing women, Nalini, lodged a complaint with Srirampura police.
The subsequent investigation led to Indushekhar's arrest. Police are also examining whether his minor daughter had any role in the alleged offences.
According to the preliminary investigation, the killings began on October 16 when Indushekhar allegedly murdered his wife. His mother-in-law is suspected to have been killed two days later.
Investigators suspect that the two women were sedated before being killed, while other family members were allegedly murdered in the following days.
A deputy commissioner of police has been assigned to supervise the investigation, with teams working to establish the sequence of killings and recover the remaining bodies.
