Bengaluru: PG Veterinary Student Booked for Alleged Irrational Treatment of Stray Dogs
Assistant Director of Animal Husbandry Rudresh Kumar carried out an inspection based on videos of dogs allegedly subjected to cruelty at the clinic.
Bengaluru: A post-graduate veterinary student Manjunath is accused of conducting surgeries 'irrationally' on stray dogs at an unlicensed Prime Care Veterinary Hospital run by veterinarian Asif in Doddakannalli of Bengaluru and a subsequent inspection by officials attached to Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) on September 8 rescued 6 stray dogs, a cat and 5 dogs boarded at the facility.
Acting on a clue that animals were subjected to cruelty at the clinic, an inspection was carried out by Assistant Director of Department of Animal Husbandry Rudresh Kumar based on videos of dogs subjected to alleged cruelty at the clinic.
Prior to the inspection, Rudresh said he verified some videos of dogs subjected to cruelty at the vet hospital run by Asif.
Rudresh Kumar told Deccan Chronicle on Friday the hospital run by Asif where a post-graduate student Manjunath allegedly ferried stray dogs to the clinic to conduct experiments on them as part of his research work. “Manjunath is alleged to have conducted surgeries on broken legs of stray dogs,” he said and stated “Stray dogs were subjected to irrational treatment at the clinic.”
During the inspection, Rudresh said he came across bandaged dogs at the clinic and the clinic run by Asif was functioning for about 4 years.
A carcass of a stray dog was discovered at an open space in front of the hospital and the carcass of the dog is yet to be established whether it died at the hospital and dumped at the site or someone else killed it and discarded the carcass.
Asif claimed innocence and stated Manjunath used to ferry stray dogs to the clinic for surgeries.
A First Information Report has been registered against Asif and Manjunath at Bellandur police station. Investigations are on.
