Acting on a tip-off, the source said an anonymous caller alerted the child helpline about the alleged infant sacrifice at the Colony and officials swung into action to rescue the baby boy.

Bengaluru: An infant of about 8-month, a boy belonging to a Hindu family, was rescued by coordinated efforts of officials of Child Protection Unit and Hosakote police in a nick of time before he was alleged to have been sacrificed by a couple of belonging to other faith on January 3 at Janata Colony in Sulibele of Hosakote in Bengaluru Rural district. The sacrifice of the infant is said to have to unearth a hidden treasury at their home by the couple belonging to a minority community.
A source engaged in the rescue of the infant told Deccan Chronicle on Monday a couple had made arrangements at their house to sacrifice the infant which they had adopted “illegally” from a Hindu couple belonging to Kolar district. The names of the couple were not immediately available.
Acting on a tip-off, the source said an anonymous caller alerted the child helpline about the alleged infant sacrifice at the Colony and officials swung into action to rescue the baby boy.
At around 12 pm on January 3, the source said “We entered the house to find a pit dug at their home and all arrangements gave an impression that the infant was about to be sacrificed by the couple. But there was no sign of the baby boy.”
“There was a lot of puja materials readied by the couple to conduct some rituals ahead of the sacrifice of the infant. But, when the team reached and inspected the home, there was no baby boy. The couple has kept the boy at one of their neighbour’s home,” the source said and stated “Only after our insistence, the couple produced the baby boy before us.”
The baby boy was rescued and the couple were arrested by the police. First Information Report has been registered by Hosakote police and investigations are underway.
