Bengaluru: 13-Year-Old Abducted, Murdered by Acquaintances; Accused Nabbed After Firing

Nischith went missing on Wednesday evening and his partially burnt body was discovered in the Bilwaradahalli forest on Thursday at around 5.30 pm under the Bannerghatta police limits of Bengaluru Rural district.

Bengaluru: Bengaluru police on Thursday shot at and arrested two persons who were evading arrest for the kidnap and murder of a 13-year-old student a day earlier. The duo had allegedly murdered Nischith, a Class 8 student, and burnt his body.

Police said the two accused, Gurumurthy, 25, and Gopi, 27, had demanded Rs 5 lakh from the parents of Nischith after kidnapping him, and later murdered him. Police said the duo knew the family of the victim.

Nischith went missing on Wednesday evening and his partially burnt body was discovered in the Bilwaradahalli forest on Thursday at around 5.30 pm under the Bannerghatta police limits of Bengaluru Rural district.

Police said they had opened fire at the duo in self defence and injured them in the legs. Gurumurthy sustained injuries in both legs and Gopi was shot in his right leg.

Police said Nischith left to attend tuition at 5.30 pm on 80 Feet road at Arekere on Wednesday, and was to return at 7.30 pm. When he did not return, his father J.C. Achuth went out in search of him. The family came across Nischith’s bicycle near a park but there was no trace of the child. Achuth then filed a missing complaint with Hulimavu police at around 10.30 pm.

When the police began investigations, Nischith’s mother received a message on her mobile phone at about 8 am on Thursday from the abductors demanding Rs 5 lakh as ransom. The family informed the police who intensified their search and found a partially burnt body in the thick forest. Nishchith’s parents then identified the body as that of their son, going by the dress and a silver thread worn around his waist.

Meanwhile, police said they were tipped off that the accused Gurumurthy and Gopi were hiding in the forest. When police went to arrest them, the duo is said to have attacked the personnel following which the police retaliated. The injured accused persons were taken to the Victoria Hospital of Bengaluru for treatment.

Police said that the duo ahd gathered information about the family and planned the abduction to make quick money. Bannerghatta police have registered a case and are investigating. The duo have been booked under various sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Suraksha Sanhita.
