BENGALURU: A plea from newly elected office-bearers of Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) to the State Government to permit them to conduct a cricket match between Delhi versus Andhra Pradesh as part of Vijay Hazare Trophy at M. Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru city is under consideration. While seeking permission from the State Government, KSCA made it clear the match between Delhi and Andhra Pradesh will be without spectators.
However, the Board of Cricket Control of India on its website announced Chinnasamy stadium as the venue to host a match between Delhi versus Andhra Pradesh on December 24. The match is scheduled to start on Wednesday at 9 am. The BCCI on its website stated Abhijeet Bengeri and Anil Dadekar as on-field umpires for the match.
The State Government withdrew hosting rights of Chinnaswamy stadium following a stampede on June 4 which killed 11 persons and injured as many as 70 after a huge crowd gathering tried to make their way into the stadium to catch live the felicitation to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) players on their winning Indian Premier League (IPL)-2025.
Earlier Karnataka Minister of Home Dr G. Parameshwar told reporters in Bengaluru a committee has been constituted comprising Chief Commissioner of Greater Bengaluru Authority Maheshwar Rao, Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru city Seemanth Kumar Singh, health, fire and emergency services among others to make a spot inspection whether to allow the match on Wednesday. The committee inspected the stadium on Monday and will submit a report for the State Government to arrive at a decision.
A KSCA office-bearer stated after the stampede, two letters from the State Government to KSCA went unanswered. But, the newly elected KSCA office-bearers have held discussions with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, Minister of Home Dr G. Parameshwar among others to permit them to conduct matches at the Chinnaswamy stadium.
