BENGALURU: Residents of Sai Layout under Mahadevapura zone of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike in Bengaluru city had to face yet another flooding of their area owing to heavy rainfall lashing Bengaluru city on Saturday which went on Sunday early hours till 2 am. As a result of flooding, the residents spent most of the night draining water out of their houses.

Sources told Deccan Chronicle on Sunday, the residents have faced similar flooding of their area previous year in October and then the residents had to cope with knee deep water level. Even heavy rains in September, 2020 resulted in flooding of Sai Layout and then parked vehicles were damaged owing to water logging of knee deep height.

Over the ordeal faced by them, a resident said water about 6 feet flooded the Layout and residents had to go without sleep till 3 am until they drained the water out of their houses. To have firsthand information of the situation at Sai Layout, Chief Commissioner of BBMP Maheshwar Rao inspected the Layout boarding a tractor and assured the residents to find a permanent solution to flooding of the Layout.

As a time being measure, the Chief Commissioner stated to arrange for a jack well to drain out water accumulated in the Layout and pointed out Sai Layout is a low lying area much lower the storm water drain passing nearby and the excess water out of the drain enters the Sai Layout causing flooding of the Layout.

To make matters worse for the residents of Sai Layout, Rao said a vent in the vicinity is too small to allow excess water flow and he assured discussions will be held with Railway officials to widen the small vent.

Rao assured the residents to provide affected residents with compensation after identification and told the residents to initiate steps to get the storm water drain cleaned to prevent overflow into the Layout. During his inspection, Rao inspected areas near Manyata Tech Park, Nagavara junction and surrounding areas affected by flooding/waterlogging.
