Ballari SP Suspended a Day After He Took Charge, With Inquiry Pending
The order from the State Government stated during the period of suspension, the suspended officer shall not leave the headquarters under any circumstances without the written permission of the State Government.
BENGALURU: Acting on the recommendation of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP), Ballari range, the State Government placed Superintendent of Police, Ballari Pavan Nejjur under suspension with pending inquiry over his failure to effectively handle untoward incident at SP circle in Ballari city on Thursday evening which led to the death of a persons and stone pelting incident after supporters of former minister and MLA Gali Janardhan and Congress MLA Nara Bharath Reddy clashed over placing banner.
It is said supporters of Ballari MLA Nara Bharath Reddy were engaged in putting banners for a programme to unveil a statue of Valmiki Mahrishi when security men of Gali Janardhan Reddy objected to it. The objection led to an altercation between the supporters of Gali Janardhan Reddy and Nara Bharath Reddy. Over the tension in Ballari city, the suspension order of SP Pavan Nejjur stated that the Ballari SP failed to properly brief the senior officers about the ground situation.
Pavan Nejjur took charge as SP, Ballari on Wednesday. Prior to his posting in Ballari as SP, Pavan Nejjur served as Superintendent of Police, Karnataka Lokayukta, Bengaluru.
The State Government on Friday stated it examined the recommendation made by the DIGP and was convinced that the conduct of the officer violated Rule 3 of All India Services (Conduct) Rules, 1968 and prima facie satisfied that it is necessary to place Pavan Nejjur under suspension with immediate effect.
