Another Skeletal Remain Unearthed at Garudamule Excavation in Tekkalakote

Ballari: Archaeologists excavating the prehistoric site at Garudamule in Tekkalakote made another significant find on Thursday, uncovering a human skull on the concluding day of the excavation.
The excavation team, led by Prof Namita S Sugandhi, Associate Professor of Anthropology at Hartwick College, USA, had been working at the site for the past week and had already unearthed two prehistoric human skeletal remains and ancient artefacts.
On the final day of the excavation, the team discovered a skeletal remain — a skull beneath a pot — at a location marked Tek-3. Earlier, two skeletal remains had been recovered from another spot, Tek-1, situated about 400 feet away.
As Prof Sugandhi is scheduled to return to the United States, the excavation was concluded as planned. However the findings would be valuable for future research and further scientific study of the site.
During the excavation in the past few days, the team had also recovered pottery burials, pottery fragments and sharp-edged stone tools. The discoveries indicate that the site may have been occupied continuously from the Mesolithic phase through the Early Historic period.
