Prison Official Says Assistant Superintendent Suspended Over Dereliction Of Duty
BENGALURU: A raid by sleuths of Central Crime Branch came across a couple of discrepancies/lapses at the Central Prisons, Bengaluru where the raiding sleuths prominently came across convicted prisoner and former Lok Sabha member Prajwal Revanna not wearing prison uniform and also having access to the use of a smartphone, a pen drive and a charger in his cell located in high security block.
When questioned, Prajwal Revanna, serving life conviction in a rape case, fumbled to answer the queries posed to him by the raiding sleuths of CCB on Tuesday afternoon and Prajwal Revanna tried to mislead the sleuths.
In connection to the smart phone accessed by Prajwal Revanna, Director General of Prisons and Correctional Administration Alok Kumar told reporters in Bengaluru on Wednesday incharge Assistant Superintendent of Police, Central Prison, Bengaluru has been placed under suspension while Superintendent of Police attached to the Central Prison has been served show-cause.
Alok Kumar said about 3-months back, he received a complaint that Prajwal Revanna was not wearing prison uniform and had asked officials concerned to make convicts wear prison uniform but the order was not followed by concerned official.
During earlier raids on the Central Prison by CCB and also Prison officials, Bengaluru, Alok Kumar stated “He might have been alerted over the raid by some staff of the Prison (to conceal smart mobile).”
Reacting to the CCB raid catching Prajwal Revanna using a smart phone, Minister of Home Priyank Kharge stated “It is a case of our officers are hand in glove with the convicted/inmates at the Prison.” Continuing, he said, “These does not happen at the high rank level officers but at lower rank officials.”
“Digital audit has been taken-up,” Kharge said and stated “VIPs through their money power lure staff and some of them succumb to it.”
Meanwhile, uncle of Prajwal and Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy told reporters in New Delhi “It is not at all connected to me” and asked “Why are you asking this question to me?”
