All Taluks Of Kodagu Received Copious Rainfall In 24 Hours

BENGALURU: Kodagu district reported a rainfall of about 126. 79 mm till Monday 8.30 am from Sunday and when compared with the figure of rainfall of previous year on the same date, it was 0.05 mm, throwing normal life out of gear across the district. Since January this year, Kodagu district has reported rainfall of 449.84 mm higher than the previous year’s rainfall of 325. 40 mm.
Recording nil rainfall on the same date last year, on Monday the Madikeri taluk received a rainfall of 143.30 mm, Virajpet taluk also recorded nil rainfall the previous year on the same date while it received 155.30 mm from Sunday morning to Monday morning, Ponnampet taluk also had zero rainfall on the same date of the previous year and the taluk recorded a rainfall of 120. 28 mm, Kushalnagar taluk had no rainfall reported on the same day last year while it was 102.40 mm and Somwarpet taluk received a rainfall of 112.65 mm and it was 0.25 rainfall last year.
Owing to heavy rainfall in the district, water level in Harangi reservoir rose by two-feet. On Monday, water level in the reservoir stood at 2834.60 feet and there was inflow of 2990 cusecs into the reservoir.
Kodagu Deputy Commissioner Venkat Raja, as a precautionary measure, prohibited visitors/tourists from swimming/taking dips/ engaging in adventure activities, entering near waterfalls, streams, rivers, rivulets, water tanks and near reservoirs until further order.
The Deputy Commissioner visited Valmoor, Tyagatoor in Kushalnagar taluk to assess damages caused by heavy rainfall. Meanwhile, MLA Dr Manther Gowda inspected several breakdown points.
