Activists Demand Unbiased SIT Probe into Alleged Crime Against Women in Dharmasthala
The campaign, launched in August by women’s groups aims to secure justice for victims and extend support to families who have been pursuing these cases for years

Mangaluru: Women’s organisations and rights activists spearheading the ‘Who Killed the Women in Dharmasthala?’ campaign will hold a silent march and a Convention in Belthangady on December 16, demanding a comprehensive SIT probe into alleged sexual assaults, murders, unnatural deaths and cases of missing women in Dharmasthala.
The campaign, launched in August by women’s groups aims to secure justice for victims and extend support to families who have been pursuing these cases for years.
Addressing reporters, activist Jyothi said the SIT probe must remain focused on ensuring justice for women and other affected persons, without being influenced by any pressures.
She stressed that, as per the government order constituting the SIT, the investigation should not be limited to allegations of mass burials but must include all past and ongoing criminal cases within its scope.
“There is an effort to influence the SIT probe. While the SIT heads, Pronab Mohanty and Anucheth, are good officers, there are some officials who are trying to intimidate those who approach them,” she alleged.
The silent march has been scheduled for December 16, a day observed as Anti-Rape Day since the 2012 Nirbhaya case. Organisers said the date is meant to remind society of women’s courage and the continued need for stronger safeguards against sexual violence.
Jyothi said that the Belthangady event is meant to “alert” the government and the SIT about the gravity of the allegations and the need for clarity in the investigation.
“We are not pointing fingers at anyone. But why has no one been arrested? Why hasn’t the system questioned those named in the complaints?” she asked.
