A Swimming Pool for Pet Dogs With Attached Cafe Opened in Mysuru

BENGALURU: A café ‘Bark and Brew by Zuzu’ attached with a swimming pool for pet dogs and a dedicated kitchen has opened in fourth stage Vijayanagar of Mysuru city about 3 weeks back and the idea behind the swimming pool for pet dogs is to give chance for dogs for indulging in high activity and also undergo hydrotherapy if needed.
The cafe is owned by Abhilash Mohith with his fiancee Palak Bothra. Such swimming pools dedicated for pet dogs are in Bengaluru about 4 of them, Hyderabad and Chennai having 1 each in their cities and the founder of Bark and Brew Abhilash Mohith told Deccan Chronicle on Tuesday “I think Mysuru deserves a swimming pool for pet dogs and after adequate research I give my dreams of starting a swimming pool a shape.”
The idea of starting a swimming pool for pet dogs struck Abhilash Mohith when his pet dog “Zuzu” , a Beagle, had no place in Mysuru to allow it to have swimming. Its owner Mohith used to take his pet dog to Balmuri falls, backwaters of Krishnaraja Sagar reservoir (KRS) about 20-km from Mysuru for his pet to stretch its legs in the water.
Later, Mohith studied the swimming pool models in other cities before to set-up his own in Mysuru. The café and swimming pool started with inputs from veterinarians Bhagyalakshmi and Deepak.
To avail the swimming pool at the café, Mohith said, “Owners have to book a day before. It will be of 45-minure duration which include playing and swimming for about 30-minutes. Once out of the pool, the blow drier including towel dry. Refreshments are also added.”
“Dogs are high activity animals and a walk on the roads is not enough for them to meet their physical activities. A swimming in the pool for about 30-minutes gives a dog the physical activity it requires,” said Mohith.
“Only four dogs have a chance to swim in the café pool a day,” he said and stated “After every pool is used, water is changed so as not to spread any allergies from one dog to another.”
“Here, we have a dedicated kitchen for dogs visiting the café wherein we serve egg meals, chicken meals, curds rice meals among others,” he said. Besides, the café caters to dogs’ birthdays by preparing cakes/desserts among others on orders placed by owners.
Since the start of the pool, Bark and Brew has attracted about 20 dogs to make use of the swimming pool so far. Caution is maintained when it comes to dealing with aggressive dogs with trained handlers at the Cafe.
