9 Tamed Jumbos Make Their Way To Mysuru For Dasara Festivities
The Dasara festivities will start on September 22 while jumbo savari will be on October 2: Reports

BENGALURU: 9 tamed elephants drawn from various elephant camps of the State and selected for Mysuru Dasara festivities were dispatched to Mysuru city from Veeranahosahalli, entrance of Nagarahole National Park in Hunsur taluk of Mysuru district on Monday.
The Dasara festivities will start on September 22 while jumbo savari will be on October 2.
Minister for Forests and Environment Eshwar Khandre performed the ceremonial puja to the tamed elephants prior to sending the caparisoned elephants to Arany Bhavan in Mysuru city before they enter Mysore Palace premises to begin rehearsal for the jumbo savari, the finale of the Mysore Dasara.
On Vijayadashmi day, tamed elephant Abhimanyu, tipped to carry golden-howdah from Mysore Palace premises to Bannimantap, covering about 5-km distance. The jumbo savari is the major crowd puller.
A total of 14 elephants have been selected for Mysore Dasara festivities while 9 elephants were part of the first batch of elephants sent to Mysuru city. The elephants sent to Mysore include-Bhima, Kanjan, Dhananjaya, Mahendra, Ekalavya, Kaveri and Lakshmi. Along with these elephants, their caretakers and their families will stay in tents at Mysore Palace and return back to their camps after the completion of festivities.
The first batch of elephants will stay at Aranya Bhavan in Mysuru city for a couple of days before they enter the Palace on August 7. Second batch of elephants will soon arrive in the city. The tamed elephants will be on special diet right throughout their stay for the festivities and constant observations from wildlife veterinarians.
To make them familiar with city conditions such as vehicular movements and noise, tamed elephants will be in rehearsal soon. Cannon firing will also be part of the rehearsal.
