6 of a Family Drown in Mysuru

Tragedy during Urs visit in Krishnaraja Nagar

Bengaluru: Six members of a family, including a five-year-old child, drowned in the

Cauvery flowing through Krishnarajanagar (KR) taluk of Mysuru district on
Sunday, when they went for a swim. About 10 members of the family ahd gone
to the two to attend an Urs (religious event) and entered the river flowing
nearby.

It is suspected one of the children might have started drowning and the
others rushed to rescue her, resulting in the deaths. Police identified the
deceased as Fathima and five-year-old Sadiq of Mysuru, Mohammad Yasin, Neha
Kauser and Imran of Bengaluru and Arif Ahmed of KR Nagar town.

Locals rescued Salma Banu, Asiya and Munna and took them to a hospital for
treatment. Mysuru superintendent of police Mallikarjun Baladandi visited the
spot.
Balari: Woman dies after being set ablaze, husband booked

Ballari: A 25-year-old woman was allegedly set on fire by her husband following a domestic dispute at Halakundi village of Ballari on Saturday night.

The deceased has been identified as Savita. Police have registered a case and arrested her husband Srinivas (28) in connection with the incident. He has been sent to judicial custody.

Police told Deccan Chronicle that they are also probing the possible involvement of others in the case and will arrest them if found involved.

According to police Srinivas is said to have suspected Savita’s character, leading to frequent quarrels between them. On the night of April 17, a similar argument reportedly escalated. Srinivas allegedly poured fuel on Savita, set her ablaze and locked her inside the house before fleeing the spot. She was rushed to Ballari Medical College and Research Centre (BMCRC), where she succumbed.

A case is registered at Ballari Rural police station.
