BENGALURU: A total of 263 two-wheelers were seized by officials of Transport Department on Wednesday over their unauthorisedly engaging in commercial services through operating Bike Taxis while the permission was for private use. Use of registered private/non-transport vehicles for commercial purposes is strictly prohibited under law.
A release from Additional Commissioner of Transport (Enforcement) (South), Bengaluru stated enforcement officials took to checks on two-wheelers engaged in commercial services through Bike Taxis and found as many as 263 two-wheelers operating in violation of registration norms. The checks were initiated following concerns over private, non-transport category vehicles bearing white number plates meant strictly for personal uses being used for commercial rides. The checks on Bike Taxis will go on for about a week.

Arun Kumar, a Bike Taxi operator, stated RTO officials should have created awareness first before taking to seizure of two-wheelers. “We would not have engaged in commercial services if awareness was created stating that it was unauthorised,” he added.
