YSRC’s Anil Kumar Seeks Probe Into Chinese Involvement in Nellore Quartz Trade

Nellore: YSRC PAC member and former minister P. Anil Kumar Yadav has demanded a comprehensive probe into the alleged involvement of Chinese traders in Nellore’s quartz mining business. He alleged that a syndicate backing the Chinese traders is threatening the interests of local miners, small traders, and exporters.

Addressing media on Tuesday, the YSRC leader sought an investigation into the alleged roles of Nellore MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy and Chinese businessman Yangjun Dow. Displaying documents relating to mining activities, visa correspondence and foreign visits, he sought that the state government verify their authenticity and make the facts public.

Anil Kumar questioned a purported visa-related letter on the MP’s letterhead, seeking a visa for Dow. He sought details of the Chinese businessman’s business interests in Nellore. He went on to demand a review of mining leases extending beyond 50 years. He demanded details of action taken on earlier FEMA and Mines’ Association complaints.

The YSRC leader wanted the government to probe the visit of Sinoma in China by a delegation including Nellore Deputy Mayor Roop Kumar Yadav. He questioned the authorisation, purpose, members, invitation, and expenditure related to the visit. He alleged that following his revelations into the illegal quartz mining, furniture has been hurriedly removed from Flat No. 101 in Nellore, which he claimed has been linked to the alleged quartz syndicate.

Anil Kumar demanded protection for local miners, exporters, and small businesses. He said the issue would be taken up with the Ministry of External Affairs and, if necessary, courts and investigating agencies.

Reacting to the allegations, Nellore Deputy Mayor Roop Kumar Yadav termed them personal, baseless, and politically motivated. He said he has documentary evidence to substantiate his version. He claimed that the proposed Rs 1,000-crore high-purity quartz sand processing project is aimed at locally processing the raw material being currently exported to China. It will also create employment for Nellore youth.

Roop Kumar said MP Vemireddy had written to the union External Affairs minister on December 30, 2024, seeking a visa for Dow in connection with the proposed project. He said the China delegation, which included himself and four others from Hyderabad and Delhi, first consulted Indian Embassy officials in Beijing before visiting Sinoma on their advice to study the quartz mining technology.

Rejecting allegations of anti-national activity, the TDP leader said the visit had solely been aimed at examining technology not available in India. He maintained that Dow had been legally doing business in India for past 26 years and had acquired land through APIIC at Dagadarthi SEZ in November 2019 when the YSRC had been in power.

Roop Kumar accused Anil Kumar of making politically motivated allegations ahead of local body elections. The TD leader said he would contest the charges through legal and constitutional means.
