Vijayawada: A delegation of the YSRC on Wednesday moved the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), alleging a breakdown in law and order and widespread human rights violations in Andhra Pradesh.
The delegation members met the NHRC chairman Justice V. Ramasubramanian. They submitted a complaint citing attacks on the houses of former ministers Ambati Rambabu and Jogi Ramesh and the killing of Dalit activist Salman. They presented videos and photographs of what they termed coordinated assaults by Telugu Desam cadres.
The YSRC leaders went on to charge that attempts are being made to physically eliminate opposition leaders. They wanted NHRC to take cognisance of the “anarchic governance” under Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.
According to the delegation members, the NHRC chairman responded positively, indicating that a report would be sought from the Director General of Police. They quoted Justice Ramasubramanian as saying that a fact-finding team could visit the AP.
Those who met the NHRC chairman included MPs Y.V. Subba Reddy, Mithun Reddy, Gurumoorthy, Golla Babu Rao, Meda Raghunath Reddy, P. Subhash Chandra Bose, Ayodhya Ramireddy and Tanuja Rani, SC Cell president Sudhakar Babu, former ministers Merugu Nagarjuna and Adimulapu Suresh, MLC Bommi Israel, MLA Thatiparthi Chandrasekhar, MLC Mondithoka Arun Kumar and former legislators Jupudi Prabhakar Rao and Kasu Mahesh Reddy.
