He said Government Order No. 6, issued in February 2024, secured funding through the Power Finance Corporation to ensure the project did not face financial constraints.
He said the project was estimated to cost `4,929 crore, of which `3,928 crore was to be financed by the Power Finance Corporation, leaving the state government to contribute `991 crore. He questioned why the coalition government had failed to complete the remaining works over the past two years.
Alleging that the delay was intended to facilitate privatisation, Kakani claimed the government was trying to hand over the port to private players instead of completing the project.
He demanded that the government disclose the expenditure incurred over the past two years, the progress of the project and the terms under which it proposed to award the port under the DBFOT model. He also sought details on employment opportunities, safeguards for fishermen and coastal communities, and the benefits to the state.
Kakani questioned whether the government had held public consultations before deciding on the proposed privatisation and warned of protests if the plan was not withdrawn.
