Tirupati:The election for the deputy mayor post in the Municipal Corporation of Tirupati took a dramatic turn as four YSRC corporators alleged that they were physically assaulted and coerced into voting for the Telugu Desam and Jana Sena supported candidate.
Following the election, the corporators — Anish Royal, Anil, Mohan Krishna Yadav and Amarnath Reddy — visited the residence of former minister Bhumana Karunakar Reddy and sought his forgiveness by falling at his feet.
The corporators claimed they had been intimidated and forcibly made to vote for the Telugu Desam (TD)-led alliance. Expressing their remorse, they apologised to Karunakar Reddy and YSRC Tirupati in-charge Bhumana Abhinay Reddy, stating that they were loyal to the YSRC and its president, former chief minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. They alleged that they were threatened with financial difficulties and even kidnapped to force them into voting against their will.
“We were physically assaulted and threatened with dire consequences if we didn’t vote as instructed. Out of fear, we cast our votes accordingly, but we deeply regret our actions and seek forgiveness,” said Anish Royal.
The corporators further alleged that they were taken away forcefully and subjected to physical violence to ensure their compliance. “We were warned that we would face severe repercussions if we refused to vote as instructed”, claimed Anil and Mohan Krishna Yadav.
Meanwhile, fifth division corporator Amarnath Reddy maintained that despite facing threats and intimidation, he chose to remain neutral and did not vote in favour of any party. “I was elected as a YSRC corporator and will continue in the party. I came to Karunakar Reddy with remorse, hoping he would understand the situation,” he said.
