YSRC Blames Harassment For Death of GVMC Officer

Raju insisted that action be taken against Pattabhi, whom he held directly responsible for the officer’s death

Visakhapatnam: The sudden death of GVMC mechanical section superintendent S.E. Govinda Rao has sparked a political storm in the district, with the YSR Congress (YSRC) alleging harassment by Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader Kommareddy Pattabhi as the cause.

Govinda Rao collapsed and died of a heart attack on Thursday while answering questions during a meeting.

In Gajuwaka, chaired by Swachhandra Pradesh Corporation chairman K Pattabhi and TD state president and Gajuwaka MLA Palla Srinivasa Rao.

Visakhapatnam district YSRC president K.K. Raju, after paying respects to Rao’s body at a city hospital along with other party leaders, told the media that the officer’s death amounted to a “government-sponsored murder.” He alleged that Pattabhi, angered because Rao refused to act in favour of alliance leaders regarding a contract, publicly humiliated him with “unspeakable words” during a review meeting.

Raju claimed that Pattabhi, “arrogant with power,” went berserk without listening to Rao’s explanations, creating unbearable stress that led to the fatal heart attack. He demanded that the government take responsibility for the incident and order a high-level independent inquiry.

Expressing further anger, Raju said leaders present at the time failed to arrange an ambulance immediately, forcing Rao’s daughter to intervene before medical help was secured. He insisted that action be taken against Pattabhi, whom he held directly responsible for the officer’s death.
