YSRC Alleges Police Cover-Up In Custodial Death

Addressing a press conference in Nellore, Kakani claimed that Yedukondalu died due to custodial torture and not by suicide, as maintained by the police.

NELLORE: YSRC Nellore district president and former minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy on Thursday accused the TD-led coalition government of failing to maintain law and order, alleging police excesses and a cover-up in the alleged custodial death of Yedukondalu in the Manubolu case.

Addressing a press conference in Nellore, Kakani claimed that Yedukondalu died due to custodial torture and not by suicide, as maintained by the police. Displaying photographs of the deceased, he alleged they showed multiple injuries and demanded that CCTV footage from the police station be made public.

He also alleged attempts to tamper with evidence and claimed to possess audio recordings suggesting efforts to influence witnesses. Kakani demanded criminal action against the police personnel allegedly involved, ₹1 crore as ex gratia for the victim's family and a government job for one family member.

Referring to the death of Buchireddypalem Agriculture Officer Srihari, Kakani alleged that the initial investigation had been suppressed and accused a Circle Inspector of accepting a Rs 40 lakh bribe to portray the death as an accident. He urged the district Superintendent of Police to order an impartial inquiry and warned that the YSRC would intensify its agitation if justice was not delivered.
