YSRC Alleges Collapse of Law and Order in AP, Seeks Centre’s Intervention

Babu Rao also raised the unresolved issue of the Visakhapatnam steel plant, pointing out that while private players were being allotted captive mines, the public sector unit was still denied such support.

Vijayawada: Raising serious concern over the recent political violence in Andhra Pradesh, the YSRC members told Parliament on Tuesday that the law and order in the state has deteriorated sharply, and urged the Centre to step in and restore normalcy.

Participating in the debate on the motion of thanks to the President’s address in the Rajya Sabha, YSRC MP Golla Babu Rao said the situation in AP under the TD-alliance rule had gone from bad to worse.

He alleged that lawlessness was rampant, with frequent attacks on political opponents, vandalism and incidents of arson, creating an atmosphere of fear across AP. He appealed to the prime minister and the home minister to intervene, as the state administration had failed to ensure the people’s basic safety and security.

The YSRC MP also sought enhanced central assistance for the Polavaram project, describing it as the lifeline of Andhra Pradesh. He termed the allocation of Rs 3,320 crore as grossly inadequate and pleaded that funds be substantially increased. He called for fixing the project’s height at 45 metres to ensure its promised benefits.

Highlighting public resentment over key policy decisions, Babu Rao said the people’s mood was reflected in the collection of nearly one crore signatures opposing the privatisation of government medical colleges through the PPP mode.

He recalled that YSRC chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy had initiated the establishment of 17 medical colleges to strengthen public healthcare, but the present coalition government was handing them over to private entities.

Babu Rao also raised the unresolved issue of the Visakhapatnam steel plant, pointing out that while private players were being allotted captive mines, the public sector unit was still denied such support.
