Youth Killed in Industrial Robot Accident at Kia Ancillary Unit

22-year-old engineering graduate suffered fatal injuries at factory in Penukonda

Kadapa: A 22-year-old youth lost his life after getting trapped in a robotic machine at a Kia ancillary unit. The deceased has been identified as Ramanjaneyulu, a native of Mutukuru village in Atlur mandal of Kadapa district.

According to police, Ramanjaneyulu, who had recently completed his engineering, had joined NPH Industries as a trainee engineer. The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, May 8, while he had been working near a robotic system on the shop floor. He got caught in the robot’s arm and suffered severe head injuries.

Co-workers immediately rushed him to the Government Hospital in Penukonda. On arrival, doctors declared Ramanjaneyulu dead.

Ramanjaneyulu’s father, Lakshmaiah, is a construction labourer. His mother passed away nearly 15 years ago. Lakshmaiah had single-handedly raised and educated his son up to engineering.

On learning about the incident, leaders of various unions reached the hospital and demanded compensation for the bereaved family. Situation calmed down after company representatives assured that compensation would be provided.

Based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s family, a case has been registered at the Kia Industrial Area Police Station. Police said an investigation into the incident is underway.
