SuV Plunges Into Sea At Antarvedi; Youth Dies

The police said the vehicle was pulled out of the sea on Thursday with the help of JCBs, and Sridhar’s body was found in the driver’s seat. He was working as a senior consultant in a pharmaceutical company and was unmarried.

KAKINADA: A New Year outing turned tragic when a sport utility vehicle (SuV) plunged into the sea at Antarvedi Beach in Sakhinetipalli mandal of Dr B R Ambedkar Konaseema district in the early hours of Thursday, killing the driver.

According to the police, the deceased was identified as Nimmakayala Sridhar (35) of Indrapalem near Kakinada. He had visited Antarvedi along with his friends Bondada Surya Kiran (34), who works in Bengaluru, and Nandamuri Venkata Sainadha Gopikrishna (31) of Vakalapudi near Kakinada. Police said the trio reached Antarvedi around 11.45 p.m. on Wednesday. Sakhinetipalli sub-inspector Durga Srinivasa Rao reportedly cautioned them about the rough sea conditions, particularly warning Sridhar, who was driving the vehicle. The group later checked into a resort, where Surya Kiran stayed back.

Around 2 a.m., Sridhar drove the vehicle along the beach with Gopikrishna seated beside him, allegedly recording the sea waves. Near a spot known as “Anna Chellella Gattu,” Sridhar failed to notice a turning and drove straight ahead, causing the vehicle to plunge into the sea.

Gopikrishna managed to jump out of the vehicle and was rescued by local youths. Sridhar, however, was trapped inside.

The police said the vehicle was pulled out of the sea on Thursday with the help of JCBs, and Sridhar’s body was found in the driver’s seat. He was working as a senior consultant in a pharmaceutical company and was unmarried.

A case has been registered, and further investigation is under way.
