Yanam Man Climbs 200 Ft Cell Tower After Cops Seize Mobile Phone

The incident traces back to alleged inappropriate comments made on social media during the counting of votes for the Yanam Assembly constituency on the 4th of this month. Polishetty Mahesh reportedly posted objectionable remarks against MLA-elect Malladi Krishna Rao in a WhatsApp group named Yanam Praja Samaysalu, which has around 670 members.

Following a complaint filed by ANR Congress president Malladi Samuel, police registered a case and questioned Mohammad Ahmed Alishah on the 7th of this month. His statement was recorded, and his mobile phone was seized for examination.

Alishah later alleged that police had accessed personal data, including private conversations with his girlfriend. Distressed over this, Alishah climbed a mobile tower and threatened to jump if his phone was not returned.

The situation quickly escalated, bringing the entire senior police administration, including Yanam Superintendent of Police K Varadarajan, trainee IPS officer Koyye Chittiraju, and teams led by ASI Pochayya and the fire brigade personnel, who rushed to the scene. Hundreds of residents also gathered as authorities attempted to persuade him to come down safely.

Despite repeated appeals, Alishah remained on the tower for over an hour, holding on to the tower with just one hand. Eventually, after assurances from Block Congress President Aradhani Dinesh that his mobile phone would be returned, he agreed to climb down. The phone was later handed over to him, and everyone breathed a sigh of relief when he finally came down safely.
