Women’s Free Travel May Extend Beyond Districts: APSRTC

APSRTC managing director Dwarka Tirumala Rao revealed that 750 electric buses have been sanctioned, with proposals for 600 more.

Nellore: APSRTC managing director Dwarka Tirumala Rao announced that the free bus travel scheme for women may be extended beyond district boundaries. During his visit to the Venkatagiri bus stand and depot on Sunday, he reviewed preparations for the scheme, which is set to launch on August 15. The initiative aims to provide free access to APSRTC bus services for women across Andhra Pradesh.

Speaking to the media, Rao confirmed that zone-wise reviews have been conducted to ensure smooth implementation. He also stated that the government is considering including Express buses in the scheme, in addition to the Palle Velugu (rural) services. The Chief Minister is monitoring the scheme’s progress through monthly reviews.

Rao further revealed that 750 electric buses have been sanctioned, with proposals for 600 more. As part of infrastructure upgrades, bus stands across the state are being repainted and enhanced with seating, fans, and other essential amenities for passengers.
