Women's APL to Boost Women's Cricket in AP: Kesineni
ACA president Kesineni Sivanath says Women's APL, to be held Sept 19-27 at Mangalagiri, aims to boost women's cricket talent in AP
The Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) will conduct the Women’s Andhra Premier League (Women’s APL) from September 19 to 27 to promote women’s cricket and provide a platform for young players to showcase their skills, ACA president and Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath (Chinni) said on Wednesday.
Addressing a media conference at the ACA Administrative Office in Vijayawada, Sivanath said four teams would compete in the current season, with all matches being played at the Mangalagiri Stadium. Nara Brahmani would attend the inaugural ceremony, he said.
Entry to the matches will be free. The ACA will also arrange special buses to transport students from Vijayawada to the Mangalagiri Stadium to generate greater interest in women’s cricket among youngsters.
Sivanath said the Women’s APL was aimed at creating more opportunities for women cricketers and would be expanded in the coming years to provide players from across Andhra Pradesh opportunities to compete and develop their talent.
“From the next season, we are taking steps to organise Women’s APL matches in Visakhapatnam and Kadapa as well,” he said.
A bike rally will be organised from Vijayawada to Mangalagiri on Thursday evening as part of efforts to popularise the tournament. Sivanath appealed to sports enthusiasts, youth, students and the public to participate in the rally and support the initiative.
ACA Director of Cricket Operations Kalyan Krishna and CEO Jai Kishan were present.
