Women Protest Drinking Water Shortage in Parvathipuram Manyam
Residents demand restoration of drinking water supply and improved sanitation.

Visakhapatnam: Women from the BC Colony in Komarada mandal headquarters of Parvathipuram Manyam district staged a protest on Friday, carrying empty pots and demanding restoration of drinking water supply to the locality.
Residents said the colony, located about 100 metres from the local secretariat, has been facing an inadequate water supply for nearly a year despite the installation of pipelines under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM).
Leading the protest, Sujatha Narayanamma alleged that water was supplied through the JJM-sanctioned pipelines for only two months before the service was discontinued. She said residents, particularly women, had submitted several representations to officials but the problem remained unresolved.
CPM leader Kolli Sambasiva Rao alleged that repeated complaints to the MPDO and secretariat staff had failed to produce a lasting solution. According to him, water supply is restored intermittently and often remains available for only a day before being disrupted again.
The protesters demanded replacement of the old pipelines to ensure a regular supply of drinking water to the colony.
Sujatha Narayanamma also alleged that clogged drains had led to stagnant water in the area, creating mosquito breeding grounds and increasing the risk of diseases. She demanded immediate cleaning of the drains and warned that residents would intensify their agitation if the issues were not addressed.
The protesters urged the authorities to take immediate steps to restore drinking water supply and improve sanitation facilities in the colony.
