WHO’s 3-Day Traditional Medicine Global Summit From Dec. 17

VIJAYAWADA: The Regional Ayurveda Research Institute (RARI) in Vijayawada on Tuesday presented key details of the 2nd WHO Traditional Medicine Global Summit, scheduled to be held at the Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi from December 17 to December 19.

Addressing a press conference here, RARI research officers Dr. Sujata P. Dhoke and Dr. K. Midhuna Mohan said the international summit is being organised under the aegis of the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS) and the central Ministry of AYUSH.

Around 700 delegates representing more than 100 nations will attend the summit, including 79 official delegations from ministries of Health across the globe. Approximately 5,000 participants from over 100 countries will participate in the summit virtually.

The three-day event will feature field visits to premier institutions, including the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), National Institute of Unani Medicine (NIUM), and Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY).

An AYUSH Expo will showcase the experiential integration of digital tools, artificial intelligence, and innovation with traditional medicine systems, highlighting India's strengths in knowledge heritage, public health integration, research, technology, and wellness practices.

Bilateral discussions have been scheduled with representatives from approximately 20 countries, including Brazil, Vietnam, Indonesia and Thailand, to advance collaboration and partnerships in traditional medicine practices around the world.

A special session on Ashwagandha will promote evidence-based integration of this traditional herb into global health and wellness systems.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, WHO director-general Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, health ministers from various countries, and other distinguished dignitaries are expected to participate in the summit.

Research officers Dr Dhoke, Dr Mohan, Dr Savita P. Gopod, and Dr Anumol K. explained the objectives of the summit, India's leadership role, and initiatives undertaken by the Ministry of AYUSH in advancing traditional medicine globally.
