West Godavari: Unidentified Body in Parcel with Threat Letter Found

KAKINADA: A family of labourers was in for a shock when they opened a parcel and found the body of a middle-aged man in it on Friday. This happened in Yendagandi village of Undi mandal in West Godavari district.

Bhimavaram DSP Jaya Surya told Deccan Chronicle that an auto rickwhaw came to the house on Thursday evening and the driver gave it a heavy parcel. The family took the parcel and kept it aside, in the expectation that it was material for their house construction.
Friday morning, while opening the parcel, they were startled to find the body of a male. A letter inside stated, “We demand a payment of Rs 1.35 crore, or you will face the consequences,” which was apparently addressed to the deceased’s family.
Who the deceased was, it is yet to be ascertained, police said.
The woman in the family, Sagi Tulasi, was constructing a house at the site of her old house, under a government housing scheme. She also approached the Kshatriya Seva Samithi to render assistance. In the first phase, the Samithi supplied her tiles. At the finishing stage, she again urged the Samithi for support and its functionaries promised her to send electrical items for wiring.

"A search is on for the auto driver who carried the parcel to the house," police said.

West Godavari SP, Adnan Nayeem Asmi, inspected the spot. He told the Deccan Chronicle that 11 teams have been formed to trace and arrest the culprits.
