Nellore: Prakasam district farmers are all set to receive a major boost as irrigation water from the Nagarjuna Sagar Right Canal (NSRC) will be released from the last week of August at mile 85/3 to support the 2025–26 agricultural season.
The NSRC ayacut in Prakasam covers 2,54,392 acres, including 1,04,469 acres of wetland and 1,49,923 acres of dryland, along with 97 drinking water tanks and 4 urban SS tanks. This water will benefit five constituencies spread across 14 mandals in the district.
The Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) has allocated 132 TMCs of water from the Nagarjuna Sagar Project for irrigation and drinking purposes in the Palnadu, Prakasam, and Bapatla districts. Of this, 43% is earmarked for Prakasam district.
Officials confirmed that irrigation water will be available for paddy and six other wet crops from late August 2025 until March 2026. The supply will be strictly regulated under the supervision of the irrigation, agriculture, revenue, and police departments, ensuring fair distribution.
