War of Words in Kovur Between TD, YSRC Women Activists

Tirupati: Tense situation prevailed at the Tahsildar office in Kovur town in Nellore district on Friday following a war of words between women activists of ruling Telugu Desam and opposition YSRC parties.

The friction started when TD women leaders started protesting, demanding an unconditional apology from former MLA Nallapareddy Prasanna Kumar Reddy for his remarks against sitting Kovur MLA Vemireddy Prashanthi Reddy.

Carrying placards and raising slogans, the TD women took out a procession calling the MLA’s comments inappropriate and unacceptable. As the procession reached the Tahsildar office, YSRC women activists obstructed it, leading to heated exchanges between the two groups.

The verbal altercation started getting serious, prompting police to intervene and defuse the situation. However, TD women leaders alleged that some of their members had been physically assaulted by YSRC workers during the clash.

“We will not stay silent when a woman in public life is subjected to such disrespect. Prasanna Kumar Reddy may be a six-time MLA. But that doesn’t justify making such offensive comments. If he has realised his mistake, he must apologise,” said a TD activist at the protest.

TD leaders warned of intensified protests if Prasanna Kumar Reddy does not issue a public apology.
