Voters Receiving Notices Need Not Attend Inquiry: AP CEO Vivek Yadav

The booth-level officers (BLOs) would visit the voters' houses, collect the necessary documents and upload the same on ECINet

Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh chief electoral officer Vivek Yadav made it clear that voters who had received notices, as part of SIR, need not visit the ERO or AERO offices for inquiry. The booth-level officers (BLOs) would visit the voters' houses, collect the necessary documents and upload the same on ECINet.

The EROs would conduct online inquiry only under extraordinary situations, he said. The CEO said that inquiry of only 209 cases was pending in the state. He held a teleconference with the district election officers (collectors) regarding SIR on Thursday.

He suggested that the voters receiving notices should be ready to send anybody, completing 18 years of age, from their family for the inquiry, if necessary. He also indicated that the collectors should set up help desks and special camps for the enrolment of workers, poor and destitute people, staying in night shelters.

The Supreme Court has upheld the additional declaration attached to Form-6 used for registration of new voters during the Special SIR process. During normal time, when SIR is not mentioned, Form-6 applicable under Registration of Electoral Rules-1960 should be utilized. Special drives should be taken up for enrolment of new voters, he said.
