VMC Steps Up Checks To Ensure Safe Drinking Water
Vijayawada Municipal Corporation commissioner H.M. Dhyanachandra directed officials to ensure safe drinking water, sanitation and mosquito-control measures.
Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) commissioner H.M. Dhyanachandra on Tuesday directed officials to take all measures meticulously to ensure that city residents receive clean and safe drinking water.
During a field inspection, the commissioner reviewed sanitation, drinking water supply, mosquito-control measures, and basic civic amenities along Vemula Shyamala Devi Road, Bhagat Singh Road, Satyanarayanapuram, Ajit Singh Nagar and Sundarayyanagar Katta areas.
At VRRO water plant on Bhagat Singh Road in Satyanarayanapuram, he inspected the facilities and reviewed arrangements for supplying drinking water to residents. He directed officials to pay special attention to water quality and regularly inspect water plants in every division.
Dhyanachandra ordered officials to ensure laboratory tests of drinking water at prescribed intervals. Measures should be taken to ensure uninterrupted supply of purified and healthy drinking water without any lapses. He called for steps to prevent wastage of drinking water.
At Sundarayyanagar Katta, the commissioner inspected sanitation arrangements. He directed officials to remove accumulated waste promptly. He asked officials to coordinate with owners of vacant plots and ensure stagnant water is removed from the premises.
Dhyanachandra ordered that antimalarial activities be taken up immediately after every spell of rain to prevent mosquito breeding.
He later inspected the Anna Canteen in Ajit Singh Nagar and checked food quality, drinking water supply, water used for other purposes, and sanitation arrangements. He instructed officials to conduct daily inspections of Anna Canteens and ensure there is no compromise on the quality of food served to the public. Any problem detected during inspections should be addressed immediately, he underlined.
Those who accompanied the commissioner during the inspections included zonal commissioner K. Prabhudas, executive engineer Gopalakrishnamurthy, assistant Medical and Health officer Dr. Annapurna.
