VMC Cracks Down on Unhygienic Eateries, Water Plants
Vijayawada civic officials inspected eateries and RO water plants, issuing notices over hygiene lapses and warning of penalties and licence cancellation.
The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) stepped up inspections of hotels, tiffin centres, restaurants and RO water plants across the city on Tuesday to check hygiene and food safety standards.
Acting on the directions of VMC commissioner H.M. Dhyanachandra, public health officials conducted inspections in areas around Cholera Hospital, Milk Factory, Dhobi Khana and Loyola College Road.
Inspection teams visited several establishments, including Manikantha Tiffin Centre, Sri Krishna Water Plant, Venus Chicken Shop, Madhuri Curries Point and Tirumala Tiffins. Officials checked food waste disposal, availability and use of dustbins, cleanliness of premises and general sanitation practices.
Deficiencies, including improper disposal of food waste, lack of dustbins and poor maintenance of surrounding areas, were found at some establishments. Officials issued notices to the owners and directed them to rectify the deficiencies within seven days.
The civic authorities warned that failure to comply would invite penalties and could also lead to action to cancel the trade licences of the establishments concerned.
The VMC said inspections would continue regularly across the city as part of efforts to safeguard public health. Assistant medical health officer Dr Annapurna, sanitary supervisors, sanitary inspectors and other public health staff participated in the inspection drive.
