VMC Appoints 44 Officers For Ward Polls

Municipal commissioner warns officials of suspension for election duty lapses

The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) has appointed 44 returning officers to receive nominations for elections to 86 wards and designated a separate officer for the mayoral election.

Municipal commissioner H.M. Dhyanachandra warned that officials neglecting election duties or failing to enforce the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) would face disciplinary action, including suspension.

Nominations will be accepted from October 16 to 18 between 11 am and 3 pm. Returning officer and PD Housing Rajini Kumari will receive nominations for the mayoral election at the command control room in the VMC headquarters. Ward candidates must submit nominations at designated offices assigned to their respective wards.

The commissioner has released the addresses of all 44 nomination centres across the corporation’s three circles. The centres include ward secretariats, schools, community halls, municipal offices and other designated facilities in various localities.

Dhyanachandra directed officials to remove political posters, banners and campaign material and cover statues of political leaders in accordance with election rules. He also ordered continuous field-level monitoring, timely completion of assigned tasks and coordination among departments.

Officials have been instructed to strictly enforce the 100-metre restriction around polling stations and promptly act against campaign violations. Negligence, disobedience of instructions and laxity in enforcing the MCC would invite suspension and other disciplinary action.

The commissioner said election duties must be performed without disrupting routine civic services or government operations. He urged staff to discharge their responsibilities diligently to ensure the smooth conduct of elections.
