Vizag To Get 100 E-Buses Under PM E-Bus Sewa
The minister said the 100 buses are part of the 750 e-buses sanctioned for Andhra Pradesh.
VISAKHAPATNAM: Visakhapatnam will receive 100 electric buses in the first phase under the Central government’s PM e-Bus Sewa scheme, state transport minister Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy said on Saturday after inaugurating the power room at the Simhapuri e-Bus depot.
The minister said the 100 buses are part of the 750 e-buses sanctioned for Andhra Pradesh. He added that Vijayawada, Tirupati, Rajamahendravaram and Guntur would also receive electric buses under the programme.
Ramprasad Reddy said the depot’s modern power room has been readied for the operation of the new fleet, while supporting infrastructure, including a substation and charging station, is nearing completion. He said the electric buses are expected to be introduced within the next two to three months and directed officials to complete the remaining works before their arrival.
He said the new fleet would strengthen APSRTC services by providing commuters with cleaner, more efficient and environmentally friendly public transport alongside the existing buses.
The minister reiterated that the state government, under the leadership of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, is committed to promoting electric mobility and modernising public transport.
Addressing speculation over APSRTC’s future, Ramprasad Reddy said the corporation would not be privatised as long as the coalition government remained in power and urged people not to believe rumours.
APSRTC Vizianagaram zone executive director G. Vijayageetha, Visakhapatnam district public transport officer B. Appalanaidu, deputy chief traffic managers, engineers, depot managers, officials, employees and representatives of various RTC unions attended the programme.
