Vizag Signs Cooperation Pact With Moscow for Smart City Initiatives

Sribharat said the partnership would facilitate the adoption of advanced transport technologies and global best practices for the benefit of Visakhapatnam.

Visakhapatnam:The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) with the Government of Moscow to strengthen collaboration in smart city development, urban transport and digital innovation.

GVMC commissioner Ketan Garg said the agreement marked a significant step in Visakhapatnam’s efforts to emerge as a globally competitive, smart and sustainable city. He said the partnership would support the development of the Visakhapatnam Economic Region through the adoption of global best practices in sustainable urban transport, smart mobility, digital innovation, technology transfer and industrial collaboration.

The MoC was signed by Ketan Garg and Maksim Liksutov, Deputy Mayor of Moscow and head of the department of transport and road infrastructure development, in the presence of Visakhapatnam MP Mathukumilli Sribharat during the 5th International Transport Summit in Moscow.

The agreement provides for cooperation in modern urban transport systems, intelligent transport technologies, digital ticketing, artificial intelligence integration, autonomous transport and participation in the Urban Transport Data Project. It also covers industrial collaboration in automotive and electronics manufacturing, energy storage systems, vertical transport solutions, technology transfer and exchange of technical experts.

Sribharat said the partnership would facilitate the adoption of advanced transport technologies and global best practices for the benefit of Visakhapatnam.

Municipal administration and urban development minister P. Narayana said the agreement highlighted Visakhapatnam's growing importance as a key urban centre under the Visakhapatnam Economic Region.

Principal secretary S. Suresh Kumar said the cooperation would promote knowledge exchange and provide access to advanced solutions in urban mobility and digital transformation, supporting sustainable urban development.

Commissioner Ketan Garg said the partnership reflected GVMC’s commitment to adopting world-class technologies, innovative governance practices and sustainable mobility solutions to strengthen infrastructure and promote the long-term development of the Visakhapatnam Economic Region.
