Vizag Readying For Women’s T20I Opener Against Sri Lanka

Visakhapatnam has been chosen to host the opening two matches on December 21 and December 23, which will be the Women in Blues’ first international assignment after lifting the coveted trophy: Reports

VISAKHAPATNAM: Cricket fever is again gripping Visakhapatnam with India's newly crowned Women’s ODI World Cup champions playing two of the five high-stake T20 Internationals in the port city against Sri Lanka this month.

From their historic World Cup triumph in November, Indian women's cricket team will play five T20I matches with Sri Lanka from December 21 to December 30.

Visakhapatnam has been chosen to host the opening two matches on December 21 and December 23, which will be the Women in Blues’ first international assignment after lifting the coveted trophy.

Andhra Pradesh’s IT and Education minister Nara Lokesh has heightened the anticipation with the social media post, "Vizag, get ready. The world champions are coming this month. Any guesses who?"

The post has sparked enthusiastic responses from cricket fans. They have responded with eagerness to welcome the triumphant team to the city and show their support for women's cricket.

Both the matches in Visakhapatnam will be held at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium. After its upgrade with major renovations to meet international standards, the stadium, with a capacity of 25,000 spectators, has already hosted a men's ODI between India and South Africa on December 6.

Officials of Vizag district administration and Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) held a meeting on Tuesday to finalise the arrangements. Police commissioner Sankhabrata Bagchi announced a multi-layered security framework for the event. Women police officers will be deployed to ensure safety of both the visiting teams from the time they arrive on Wednesday, December 17.

Commissioner Sankhabrata said there are multiple ticketing options – digital M-Tickets, e-tickets, and physical tickets for the convenience of spectators. Enhanced security arrangements will be made at all physical ticket counters, while CCTV surveillance systems will monitor parking areas throughout the venue.

Tickets for both the matches in Vizag are also available on the Zomato app. Prices of tickets have been kept affordable at ₹200, ₹300, ₹350 and ₹400 per ticket depending on the seating area.
