Vizag Police Recover Stolen Property Worth Rs1.13 crore

Police said that in the past two years, a total of 9,899 stolen and lost mobile phones worth Rs 14.84 crore had been recovered in the city

VISAKHAPATNAM: The Visakhapatnam City Police achieved a significant milestone in crime prevention and detection by recovering stolen goods worth over Rs 1.13 crore in March 2026.

Commissioner of police Dr Shankabrata Bagchi said a total of 77 property offences were reported in the city during March. Of these, police detected 67 cases, arrested 83 offenders and recovered more than 926 grams of gold ornaments, over 3.5 kg of silver ornaments, Rs 4.7 lakh in cash, 12 bikes, one auto-rickshaw, one lorry, and 312 missing and stolen mobile phones. The recovered property was handed over to the owners during a recovery mela on Thursday.

Police said that in the past two years, a total of 9,899 stolen and lost mobile phones worth Rs 14.84 crore had been recovered in the city.

To prevent future crimes, police have adopted a multi-faceted strategy and installed 656 CCTV cameras across the city in March, significantly strengthening surveillance capabilities.

The department also conducted 333 crime awareness meetings to educate the public on criminal activities and preventive measures during the month. Police have decided to intensify special patrolling teams during the summer vacation and introduce drone-based patrolling to prevent possible property offences.
