Vizag Police Recover Rs1 cr Worth Stolen Property

Police detected 53 cases and arrested 65 offenders

Visakhapatnam: The Visakhapatnam city police recovered stolen property worth over `1.01 crore, including gold, cash, two-wheelers, mobile phones and other valuables, in cases reported during November this year.

Commissioner of police Shanka Brata Bagchi said a total of 70 property offences were reported in the city in November, compared with 85 in October and 79 in September, indicating a slight decline. Of these, police detected 53 cases and arrested 65 offenders.

The recovered property included over 355 grams of gold ornaments, more than two kilograms of silver ornaments, `2.2 lakh in cash, five motorcycles, 27 cows and 509 stolen or missing mobile phones, all together valued at over `1.01 crore.

Of the 53 detected cases, four were robberies, 10 burglaries, two snatching cases, five motorcycle thefts, seven cattle thefts and 25 cases of ordinary theft.

Police also said that over the past two years, a total of 8,539 lost and stolen mobile phones worth `12.89 crore have been recovered in Visakhapatnam city. The recovered property was handed over to owners during a recovery mela held on Friday.

To prevent future crimes, police have adopted a multi-pronged approach, including the installation of 213 CCTV cameras across the city in November, significantly strengthening surveillance, the Commissioner said.
