Vizag Navy Marathon Attracts Over 17,000 Runners

The event was attended by senior flag officers, the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation commissioner, naval veterans and representatives of key sponsors

NVisakhapatnam: More than 17,000 runners took to the streets of Visakhapatnam on Sunday as the Vizag Navy Marathon marked its milestone 10th edition, with participation from international athletes representing 17 countries and prize money exceeding `10 lakh.

The decade-old event, which has evolved into one of the region’s premier marathons, brought together professional athletes and fitness enthusiasts across multiple race categories.

Vice Admiral Sanjay Bhalla, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command, flagged off the full marathon (42 km) and presided over the prize distribution ceremony.

The half-marathon and Sankalp Run were inaugurated by Priya Bhalla, president of the Naval Wives Welfare Association (Eastern Region), while Vizag district collector Harendhira Prasad and commissioner of police Sankhabrata Bagchi flagged off the 10 km and 5 km runs respectively.

This year’s edition introduced several participant-friendly measures, including attractive discounts for runners, an improved package of deliverables and comprehensive insurance coverage for all participants.

Vice Admiral Bhalla congratulated the winners and participants and expressed gratitude to the district administration, city police and volunteer organisations for ensuring the smooth conduct of the event.
