Vizag MP Advises 800 Displaced Airport Staff To Accept Available Jobs

Visakhapatnam MP Mathukumilli Sribharat urged nearly 800 workers displaced by the old airport’s closure to take up available jobs, citing ongoing efforts to create employment opportunities.

Visakhapatnam MP Mathukumilli Sribharat has urged nearly 800 contract workers displaced by the closure of the old Visakhapatnam airport to take advantage of available employment opportunities.

Speaking to the media after distributing cheques from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund at the Telugu Desam office, he said, “Workers should accept available jobs and demonstrate their capabilities.” He said experience and performance could lead to better salaries, increased responsibilities and career growth.

Sribharat said steps had already been taken to provide alternative employment to the affected workers. Many were referred to opportunities at Bhogapuram airport, but eligibility criteria and regulations meant that not everyone could secure interviews.

A job recruitment drive was subsequently organised with the support of the Andhra Chambers and the Visakhapatnam Hotels Association. More than 30 companies participated, with around 440-450 candidates attending. Of these, 130 candidates received job offers, while another 100-150 were shortlisted for the next round of interviews.

The MP said it would be incorrect to claim that no employment opportunities existed for the displaced workers. He reiterated his commitment to continue efforts to create additional employment opportunities for those still seeking jobs.
