Vizag: Man Held For Swapping Debit Cards, Stealing Money
Police recovered Rs 1.93 lakh in cash and a motorcycle from his possession.
VISAKHAPATNAM: Vizag city police arrested a 30-year-old man who allegedly swapped debit cards and withdrew money from the accounts of people by offering to help them at ATM kiosks.
The accused was identified as Palla Surendra Kumar of I Polavaram village in Dr B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district. Preliminary investigation revealed that he was allegedly involved in more than 60 cases. Police said he had been released from prison before allegedly resuming the offences in Vizag, Tuni and other places in the state.

According to the investigation, Surendra Kumar targeted elderly persons and women at ATM kiosks in parts of Vizag and other places. He allegedly offered to help them withdraw cash, swapped their debit cards with expired cards and later used the victims’ cards and PINs, which they had shared with him, to withdraw money.
Police said the investigation was under way to establish the number of victims and the amount of money allegedly stolen.
