This stunning tree is part of the Fabaceae family, enchanting locals and visitors with its cascading clusters of brilliant golden flowers. It has transformed the city’s everyday streets and public parks into magical havens.
Dr. Ramamurthy, the founder of the Biodiversity Park at Rani Chandramani Devi (RCD) Government Hospital, says, “For centuries, the Golden Shower tree has held a special place in the hearts of Vizag’s citizens. The tree is cherished not only for its visual beauty, but also for the profound role it plays in traditional herbal medicine.”
Healers have long recognised the tree’s natural gifts. They have crafted remedies from various parts of Golden Shower to soothe common ailments and enhance well-being.
Significantly, it is the State Flower of Kerala. The tree holds an esteemed status in Delhi, within the compounds of the powerful, whether ruling the country or in opposition.
