The refund cheques were distributed on Monday by home and disaster management minister Vangalapudi Anitha in the presence of city police commissioner Shankhabrata Bagchi: Reports

VISAKHAPATNAM: The Visakhapatnam city police Commissionerate has refunded ₹6.02 crore to 310 victims of cyber fraud under Refund Mela 3.0 as part of its efforts to trace, freeze and recover money lost in online financial scams.
The refund cheques were distributed on Monday by home and disaster management minister Vangalapudi Anitha in the presence of city police commissioner Shankhabrata Bagchi.
Police said the recoveries were made through coordinated efforts with banks, payment gateways, financial institutions and courts to identify and release frozen funds to victims.
Addressing the programme, Anitha said cybercrime cases had increased in the post-Covid period and stressed the need for greater public awareness and stronger enforcement. She said the government was strengthening cybercrime infrastructure and equipping police stations with advanced investigative tools. She urged the public to report cyber fraud immediately through the national helpline 1930 or the cybercrime portal.
Bagchi said prompt reporting by victims and close coordination with financial institutions had enabled faster freezing and recovery of fraudulent transactions. He cautioned the public against responding to suspicious phone calls, investment offers and unknown digital links.
With the latest disbursal, the total amount refunded under Refund Mela 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0 has reached ₹28.49 crore, benefiting 1,550 victims. Earlier editions refunded ₹4.63 crore to 150 victims and ₹17.83 crore to 1,090 victims, respectively.
